These are incredible times!

For the first time in history, anyone anywhere in the world with an Internet connection is able to reach out and communicate with millions if not billions of people the world over, in most cases for free!

Currently, among available Internet-based media, video is a hugely powerful medium due to the low costs to get started.  I have just purchased a Kodak Zi8 myself (click for info; no, I’m not an affiliate) which is an incredibly affordable camera that makes it easy to record a high quality video and then upload it to uTube in a flash.

Consider the power of uTube alone which streams over 1.2 billion videos worldwide every single day!

Clearly, the popularity of video combined with its global reach should put it at the top of any home business owner’s list who is seeking to take advantage of global Internet commerce by taking their business online as part of their business development program.

Here are a few important things to consider before you put your movie director’s hat on and make a video to promote your home based business:

• Who is your audience/customers, what are their needs, how can you provide a solution?
• How can you make your solution appeal to your customer in your video?
• How can you encourage them to take action to become a customer?

So let’s make a video that does the job!

Here are a few tips:

1) Buy a good camera to make a quality video and use a top-notch microphone for ensure your message is clear – you will have credibility and more willing buyers.

2) Suitable Environment:  a clutter-free, clean and sharp background is essential; ensure you have adequate lighting.

3) Engage the customer – grab their attention from the outset to make sure you have a captive audience.

4) Provide contact information toward the end or at the end of the video of where they can reach you to buy – a website address and preferably also a telephone No. can be added in uTube using the annotation tool or as a Powerpoint slide.

(Software for editing includes “Windows Movie Maker” for Windows users and “iMovie” for Mac lovers.  Sony Movie Studio HD does a wonderful job with high-def rendering (top tip: convert .mov files to .wmv first before importing video to ensure audio track is included).  The open source office suite “Open Office” includes presentation software as a free alternative to Microsoft’s Powerpoint).

5) Have fun and be consistent! This is a creative process and so enjoy it and your creative juices will flow.  Watch commercials on TV and on the Net and see what works and what doesn’t.

6) Add your video to your website and/or blog and include a button for social bookmarking services such as onlywire to get the word out.  Produce a lot of videos because they are free and Google loves fresh content -  this will maximize your traffic and number of potential customers.

7) Go viral ! Use Traffic Geyser or Tube Mogul (which is free) to distribute your videos all across the Internet as one component of a campaign to dominate for selected keywords.  You may be surprised how fast your videos will rise in organic search results on Google.

Have fun using Video as your medium of choice when marketing your home based business online.  This will help ensure that your venture into new markets is a successful and profitable one!
