Facebook advertising strategies – Remember the 3 Golden Rules?

How’s Facebook going for you?
Is the #1 Social media site as addictive for you as it is for so many (I’m a recovering Facebook-aholic myself)?
The numbers don’t lie: with Facebook having recently eclipsed Google in terms of its daily traffic, there’s no question that this once small networking site (initially only used by Harvard students alone) has taken the Internet world by surprise,
and even helped shape relationships around the world, redefining the way people interact with one another!
In fact, the unspoken question for some is why pick up the phone when you can direct message in real time while sharing photos and links, for example, on Facebook ?
Have you also reconnected with old friends via Facebook and rekindled relationships that you had once given up on due to time constraints or perhaps a house move?
How much time do you spend on Facebook yourself? (If you really are addicted, read this post on having fun but finding balance for the sake of your business)
Did you know statistics reveal that people spend a staggering 45 minutes on Facebook on average on any given day connecting with their beloved friends? …And happily share an incredible amount of personal information with their Facebook friends (and indeed the world)!

So are you taking advantage of Facebook’s incredibly targeted advertising platform ?
Yep, those personal data make Facebook an advertiser’s dream..!
…Just compare a TV commerical shown at 9m (limited in its targeting) with the
detailed targeting that Facebook provides on its advertising platform which in addition to age ranges includes so many more
parameters for zero-ing in your chosen target audience such as specific likes and interests!

Remember to follow the 3 Golden Rules when advertising on Facebook:
1) Don’t Use Facebook for Direct Sales
-not saying don’t sell anything, just remember that when advertising on Facebook, you are targeting people not wallets directly.
It’s about building a relationship first and selling second.
First court your customers by asking them to click on a targeted ad, but then direct them to another page within Facebook, respecting
the fact that they probably want to remain on Facebook.
Provide your new prospect with something of value in exchange for asking them to ‘Like’ your ‘Fan page’ and then provide more and more value.
People buy from people they know, like, and trust, so when used correctly, Facebook is a powerful sales platform…. but over time.
2) Target smaller groups of people using the targeting parameters Facebook generously provides:
Location, Age, Birthday, Sex, Keywords, Education, Workplaces, Relationship, Interested In, Languages, Connections
Casting a narrower net and then courting groups who are likely to relate to one another effectively makes for great social buzz.
If you’re running a paid advertising campaign and bringing groups of people to your fan page who have at least several of the above in common, they
are going to interact with you and with each other very well, providing social proof to anyone else who joins the group. This validates their decision to join
and creates more loyalty and in turns a happier crowd….
and more sales for you or your business
3) Grasp Your market’s Needs and Listen and learn
Your Facebook Fan page (your company page) and all the interaction that takes place there between yourself/company and your fans or potential customers provides a
UNIQUE opportunity for you to learn about your customers’ exact needs and wants. This is the equivalent of being able to have a large group of customers entering a store
sit down, drink coffee and chat about their needs (and your products).
This is pure gold to your advertising effectiveness and something you absolutely need to grasp in shaping and reshaping your offer to more closely match
your customers’ needs.
Naturally, a unique feature of Facebook is your ability to create a Fan page and create interaction between your customers AND build a list of customers who opt in in exchange for
your offer to them for something that they need.
After learning about your customers’ needs, reposition and carefully craft your email followup with each customer in a way that positions you as the only solution to their
needs and even burning desires !
Remember:
relationships + trust = loyalty & repeat sales
and a win–win for you and your Facebook customers!
